Ship Street by reeks Ship Street by reeks
There's something about Tudor buildings I just love. The silly imbalance and top-heavy design of them always makes them look like they should fall over. I always imagine Ankh-Morpork would be full of them. The wizard staying at the Ship Street inn here is *obviously* up to no-good in his room..

Been to a village built of slate in Wales (just after rain is a combination of blue-black with a bright oily sheen) The roof-tiling looked just like this, crooked & uneven Nice work Reekster
Exactly as I imagine it. Wonderful!

Fantastic artwork, great shades and light !
OranJatar Featured By Owner Jan 19, 2012
Added to faves - even though I'm not sure that the lighting would actually turn out looking like this if it was real scenery, the atmosphere is incredible and the contrast between cold and warmth exquisite. It almost looks like there's a little fireplace in the bottom left corner :)

I think, however, that it might have turned out slightly better if the sky and overall ambient lighting was darker - more stormy, or something.
germanscott Featured By Owner Oct 17, 2011
it would have been even better if you could have made it a darker night...but still, Fantastic :)

Wow amazing job! I especially love the lighting in this shot.
RockBarnes Featured By Owner Feb 27, 2011
Is this a photo manipulation, a rendering, a digital painting or some mixture of all these? I cannot tell :)

Anyway it surely looks great!

I love the lighting in this. Wonderful job!

Very impressive and incredibly atmospheric. Both the textures and modelling are beautiful.

I have to ask, are the roof tiles modelled individually or is that all texture depth? Regardless it looks fantastic.

If I had to nitpick, I would have to assume that the bay window that juts out of the building in the foreground has just one room "behind it" - and if so, wouldn't both the windows glow, not just the one on the left? It looks a bit strange (to me) that only the one window is glowing. Like I said though, if I *had* to nitpick.

Hiya Tyranus, and thank you for the feedback - it's all very flattering. You're absolutely right about the window being a double bay, and that both of the panes "should" have been lit up. I originally did both, but it was overpowering to the image, and took a little "artistic license" to light just one. It oddly makes that windo alluring, whereas both were a little "in your face". Oddly, I didn't think it was too noticeable, but you caught me out! ;)
The tiles are all individual for this shot.. enjoying the luxury of spending a few polys there. Almost everywjere else is from copious displacement mapping, but the tiles needed a strong "underhang" to throw any proper shadows.

pretty awesome. Great atmosphere, this looks pretty realistic, or at the very least, realistic in the confines of its own world, which is a very cool thing by itself.

Do you happen to have a tutorial/walkthrough explaining your methods?
Idiomatic Featured By Owner Dec 7, 2009
God. I don't think you've ever posted a pic that wasn't amazing. You seriously need to post more. :D I've actually printed a handful of your pics for my room (Hope you don't mind).

I'd love to see some tutorials from you! You clearly have a lot to offer.

I agree what you say in your description here. They have some sort of drawing towards 'em, they're indeed a very interesting piece of architecture.

Good job on the render and great work with the light.

I can see what came perfect from your work, the imperfection of meshes creates a true experience. The secret of realistic render is the imperfection and irregularity.
reeks Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2009
YAY! Thank you :) imperfection and irregularity are what I'm good at. I'm not boasting though - normally I'm naturally very messy with my artwork. This time I guess it just worked ;D
